1. The development of consciousness in children (Zelazo, etc.). Invite Bill Rowe?
2. Studies of children raised without language.
3. What other content can we add here?
H2.
1. Add idols, etc.
2. Add modern evidence, such as auditory hallucinations in normals, children, poets, command hallucinations.
3. Evidence from dreams: from bicameral to conscious.
4. I think we need to separate the description of what bicameral mentality is from the evidence that supports it, under different sections.
Questions/comments:
1. I think Preconscious Hypostases (p. 259), currently under H1, should be moved to H3, as this has more to do with the dating of the development of consciousness than the relationship of consciousness to language.
2. I think also under H3 we need to separate the evidence for dating the transition from bicameral mentality to consciousness (H3) from the suggested causes of the breakdown of bicameral mentality.
3. There will be some inevitable overlap between the various sections. For example, we can't discuss the modern relevance without also describing topics from other sections. I think this is fine.
